We are a group of teachers who feel concerns and began rethinking situations related not only to school education, but to the social relationships that take place in the classroom. We felt and were mobilized by this feeling to rethink and give new meaning to a way of working with students. We were also challenged by some aspects of school grammar and wanted to work on the idea of a school that was not only a place of literacy but also a place where students were motivated to want to learn and to have the courage to make decisions, where they were also allowed to be aware of their feelings, teaching them to Do and to Be, to recognize and value what their peers feel, teaching them to develop empathy in every step taken.
We understood that we dreamed of a school that teaches to think and to understand, that teaches fostering intellectual autonomy and critical thinking. El Colibrí Azul was born among these "thoughts" and "feelings". Our school is conceived as a space that believes that emotional development allows intellectual development, and that in order to achieve significant learning it is necessary to relate emotion, curiosity and the joy of learning.
Educational Identity
At Colibrí, we are committed to an education that fosters the development of students' abilities, as opposed to rote learning, which is far from the appropriation of meaning. We believe that in order to achieve meaningful learning, we need a sustained and systematic work with emotional education, the development of curiosity and the joy of learning, in small working groups. We work so that children have the opportunity to live in a better world, but at the same time they can contribute to the construction of a fairer and more caring world. Therefore, we pursue a school based on freedom and respect, where experiential learning is promoted, with full confidence in children and their abilities, without judging or punishing, but accompanying them emotionally and safeguarding their pace.
Our Mission
Our Mission Statement
According to the Curriculum Design, the meaning of elementary school today is to develop inclusion as a goal and to be open to diversity. One of the raisons d'être of our school is to promote learning that allows the harmonious development of the personality, especially through emotional education, in all areas of knowledge. We value socioemotional development as a gateway to a full knowledge of oneself, of others and of the context. The Identity traits that vertebrate our school are: love as the starting point of all actions; creativity (in Spanish, close to the phrase "create-in-your-life"): we believe in creating to transform what we propose; Personal Growth as the principle and purpose of all the school's actions and teamwork. In our vision we want the future graduates of our school to be full, wholesome, affectionate, happy, concerned about others and the environment, curious, with their abilities developed and ready to continue developing and learning.
